Long Beach BLAST (BLAST) – Better Learning for All Students Today, is a 501 (c)(3) organization
based in Long Beach, California. The organization’s mission is to improve the academic and personal success of at-promise youth through collaboration and innovative approaches to mentoring and learning. BLAST focuses on youth in Long Beach, California, and supports, engages, and inspires them to achieve personal and academic success. BLAST works with more than 800 at promise students per year through two programs: The Academic Mentoring Program and the Bridge to Success Program. Both programs operate under the Long Beach Unified School District academic calendar.
The Academic Mentoring Program is a site-based youth development program focused on providing positive role models to youth in Long Beach while also engaging college student volunteers in meaningful service-learning experiences. In one-on-one mentorships, program participants can learn and grow in academic, personal and professional ways, empowering them to pursue brighter futures. The AMP Program is currently exploring innovative models to provide one-on-one mentoring services In-person and virtually in collaboration with the Long Beach Unified School District.
The AMP Program Coordinator works directly with the AMP Program Manager to ensure all aspects of the program are being carried out with the highest quality of service. This includes recruitment efforts for college student volunteers, youth and their parents/guardians, maintaining strong community partnerships, community networking, regular communication with program participants, and database usage. The AMP Program Coordinator will spend time at local colleges and universities to facilitate training and recruit college student volunteers.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
• Works with the AMP Program Manager and Team to implement the program’s objectives and provide high-quality services.
• Leads recruitment efforts for local colleges, including scheduling recruitment pitches with faculty partners and supporting assigned college student volunteers who volunteer with BLAST.
• Develops and creates program materials and social media content for mentors, parents, and community partners.
• Acts as the responsible contact for program sites and collects referrals, permission forms, and participant and partner surveys.
• Coordinates and manages fingerprinting appointments, TB testing options, and training rooms.
• Prepares for and facilitates volunteer trainings.
• Reviews and approves volunteer and client applications, including required documentation.
• Completes timely placements, including verifying required logistics, publishing schedules in the volunteer and youth database, and notifying volunteers and site partners.
• Tracks service hours and compiles reports for faculty partners and college student volunteers.
• Responds to email and phone communication in a timely manner.
• Oversees the program databases, including adding volunteers in a timely manner, creating & sending frequent emails and check-in surveys, and pulling evaluation data as needed. Also reviews the monthly check-in survey of assigned college student volunteers regularly.
• Assists with the coordination of funder site visits and supervises mentors through recorded mentoring sessions and site visits
• Maintains communication with partners on program changes and other relevant program information.
• Provides ongoing support to a diverse population of college student applicants, matched youth, parents/guardians, and community partners.
• Responds to risk alerts and safety concerns immediately.
• Ensures program participants and partners are recognized.
• Assists with evaluation efforts to ensure high-quality services are delivered to all program participants.
• Collaborate with the AMP team to strategically plan, research mentoring models, and further develop the program.
• Provide training, guidance, and mentorship to AMP Program Interns
• Provides letters of completion for college student volunteers.
• Collaborates with the leadership team to support Long Beach BLAST’s special events and fundraising efforts.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience preferred.
• Paid or volunteer experience working with children and/or youth
Skills and/or Abilities and Personal Characteristics:
• Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills
• Able to pass a background check and TB test

• Strong computer skills – Experience with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, zoom and Google Suite applications.
• Must be available to work weekends during the busy season
• Reliable transportation and proof of insurance required
• Bilingual in Spanish is desired but not required
• Ability to work with people with diverse backgrounds
• Ability to have access to a reliable computer (with a microphone and video capacities) and internet access. To be provided by Long Beach BLAST, as needed.

Health Insurance: The current, standard company medical insurance coverage will be provided per company policy. The current policy is outlined below. Long Beach BLAST covers health insurance cost for its employees at the following percentages:
• 80% of health insurance cost for employees
• 20% of health insurance cost for its employee’s spouse/domestic partners, and
• 0% of health insurance cost for employee’s dependent(s)
Paid Time Off- Vacation & Sick Pay: In accordance with company policy, vacation will be accrued at 6.6 hours per month and sick time will be accrued at 8 hours per month.
Paid holidays include: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving (2 Days) and Winter Break (7 days).
Environmental Conditions: Office environment; exposure to computer screens, noise; extensive contact with staff, faculty, partners, and students, as well as donors and potential donors. *Due to the current state of health in the City of Long Beach and Los Angeles County, workspace is virtual/remote indefinitely until an official return to office is determined.
Physical Conditions: Essential functions require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, standing and walking for extended periods of time. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individual with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Travel: 25-30% (local – Greater Long Beach area). Must have own transportation. *When it is safe and approved to return to on-site services. Currently virtual/remote.
Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt
Compensation: $16.00 / hour
