Summary: This position plays a strategic role in helping to raise support from foundations, corporations, and government sources requiring formal proposals for unrestricted operating funds, restricted projects, and capital grants.

Job Duties:

  • Identify sufficient number and quality of prospects to meet annual funding goals, produce institutional donor profiles, target appropriate ask amounts, and write narrative proposals with input from program personnel and finance department as needed.
  • With overall guidance from the Chief Development & Communications Officer, prioritize and evaluate prospects for corporate, foundation, and government grants, and develop and prioritize projects and funding proposals.
  • Meet and work with staff to identify projects and programs requiring support.
  • Generate proposals for specific projects and programs, as well as general operating funds and, on occasion, capital projects.  
  • Write all proposals, budgets, reports, and other ancillary materials.
  • Manage existing grants by maintaining regular tracking system, enhancing/developing internal reporting systems, writing reports, maintaining excellent historical records, and working with Chief Development & Communications Officer to ensure each project or program is meeting proposal conditions and expectations.
  • Monitor and manage grants’ income goal.
  • Assist with other fundraising projects as requested.

Job Requirements:

  • Knowledge of fundraising information sources.
  • Experience with private and government proposal writing.
  • Proven track record working with institutional donors.
  • Knowledge of basic fundraising techniques and strategies.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Excellent computer skills, including all Microsoft Office programs and Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with research techniques for fundraising prospect research.
  • Experience with budget development and monitoring.
  • Experience in program development.
  • Knowledge of contracts and agreements preferred.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience with grant writing.
  • Proven track record of raising money from both foundation and government sources.
  • Previous experience with non-profit fundraising.
  • Work occasional evenings and/or weekends as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years of grant-writing experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Must have attention to detail.
  • Great customer service skills and ability to maintain a consistent, high level of service.
  • Must have ability to multi-task, manage multiple projects, and establish priorities without losing productivity.
  • Internet research abilities.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
  • Must function well in a team-oriented approach to member services.
  • Proficient in computer applications including Raiser’s Edge, Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook.
  • Driving with current class C driver’s license, a vehicle for transportation, proof of valid automobile insurance, the ability to be ensured by MHALA liability insurance are conditions of employment.
  • Flexible work schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Covid vaccination required.
  • TB clearance and annual retesting are conditions of employment.
