Position Summary

The Director of Development Position is responsible for writing, development, and reporting Pathways grant funding, including all existing, renewal and proposed grants and contracts. This position also facilitates corporate and individual donor development strategies and special fundraising events. This position oversees and designs marketing strategies and ensures that fund development plans throughout the organization are effectively designed and implemented.

Essential Position Responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation and development of contract and grant budgets

• Develop strategy and implement a comprehensive fundraising plan for corporate, foundation and individual giving that includes: prospect identification, research, cultivation, proposal writing and development, solicitation, and stewardship activities, meetings and reporting

• Create a volunteer fund development program designed to engage college graduates and first-time volunteers

• Develop Planned Giving and Endowment programs

• Networking with community partners, increasing exposure of the organization and building relationships

• Develop Annual Appeal program

• Develop both long-term solicitation strategies and an effective stewardship effort to maintain support from existing donors

• Work closely with program staff to conceptualize, write and/or edit requests for funding and carry out the documentation required by prospective funders

• Work with fund developer and development volunteer team to ensure profitable outcomes of each event

• Be highly knowledgeable of the organization’s goals, program model, culture, and key stakeholders.

• Oversee all necessary fundraising administration to ensure proper and accurate gift processing, tracking, and reporting internally and externally.

• Manage communication assets such as website, social media, press releases and newsletters

• Develop marketing strategies and oversee creation of marketing materials

• Provide timely reports and financial tracking of grants to funding sources

• Manage the timely reporting of progress and evaluation of all grant-funded programs

• Assist with the development of the annual report and completes other writing projects as assigned


• Knowledge of donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies and techniques

• Excellent writing and verbal communication skills

• Grant writing and reporting experience with track record of successfully obtaining grants of varying complexity

• Track record of exhibiting strong initiative and ability to work both independently and collaboratively to achieve goals

• Demonstrated ability to take primary responsibility for diverse number of projects and to complete them in a timely manner with limited supervision

• Highly organized and exceptional attention to details and deadlines

• Excellent computer fluency, effectively utilize Microsoft Office 365

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships wth staff, board members, volunteers, community groups and other related agencies

• Donor database experience (eTapestry or Raiser’s Edge experience preferred)

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of experience in a development role and/or equivalent experience

• A minimum of 3 years of nonprofit fundraising/development experience

• Proven grant writing experience and success in obtaining grants

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities Physical Requirements This position requires the ability to walk, stand, use a computer, and lift and carry up to 20 pounds

Travel Requirements

Some local travel is required for attending meetings, events and conferences
